The Objectives

To develop your technical knowledge. To transfer the content learnt on the British Canoeing Core Coach Training into a moderate open water environment. To prepare you for your BC Open Water Canoe Coach Assessment. Understanding the Who, What, How and Where of coaching.

Itinerary

The training unfolds over two days, with day one dedicated to applying Coach Core behaviours in moderate open water settings. On day two, you’ll put these principles into practice during a coaching session, receiving peer feedback, observation, and trainer guidance. The course culminates with an action planning session to prepare you for future assessments and continued development.


Experience Required

Prior to attending the course, you must have completed a number of prerequisites: Full Home Nation Association Membership Core Coach Training Open Water Canoe Leader Award Your personal paddling skills should be well developed so that the full focus of the course is on coaching skills. We also recommend that you’re able to demonstrate the skills you’ve developed from the Open Water Canoe Leader award. You’ll also need good knowledge of open water canoeing, as this provides the content of what you’ll be coaching. To make the most of this training ensure you have a high level of competency in your craft in moderate open water environments. Look back over the content covered in your core coach training.
