Overview

This two-day course focuses on teaching the technique and finesse required to roll a sea kayak. Starting with the basics, participants will be guided through various rolling techniques in an indoor heated pool. You’ll spend time on the course being individually coached to troubleshoot weak points, understand areas for development and set you on your way to a strong, dependable roll. You’ll be advised on the next steps and progressions you can take towards consolidating your roll.

The Objectives

You’ll progress from the absolute basics to understanding the parts of a roll and hopefully leave with a reliable roll.

Itinerary

You’ll start off in our heated pool looking at the underpinning skills of an effective kayak roll. We’ll go through a series of exercises to break down the roll into sections you can understand and develop, piecing it together to hopefully achieve a reliable roll. Once you’ve mastered this in the pool, you’ll move onto our pond and lake to get used to the colder outdoor environment.

Experience Required

You should be confident to capsize wearing a spraydeck. Rolling can be tiring, so being fit will help you get the most from the course. Flexibility is another key factor in success so increasing your flexibility and mobility well ahead of the course will help to ensure success.

This two-day rolling clinic is designed to help you build a safe and reliable roll from scratch. Benefit from personalised coaching, a range of learning environments, and expert guidance. We can’t guarantee you’ll leave with a roll but by the end of the course, you'll have a clear understanding of the parts of the roll and a clear plan and exercises that will achieve a strong, reliable roll.
