The Objectives

You’ll work on personal movement skills on rock, building up confidence on exposed scrambling terrain. You’ll spend the weekend in the mountains on grade one scrambles (the lowest difficulty grade) and learn how to read scramble guidebooks to choose, find and then follow the scramble. You’ll use your hands and feet to travel over varied terrain and learn how to safely navigate steeper ground. You’ll learn how to reach places which require a little more judgement about terrain than you currently possess.

Itinerary

* Please note: Itinerary is subject to weather and availability.

Expect two full days in the mountains. We’ll choose exactly where we go based on the weather, the conditions in the mountains and the team. On the first day we’ll start on scrambling terrain where we can make it trickier or easier. This allows everyone a low stress way to start out. Once we have spent a day together we’ll then work as a team to decide which scramble we should do on the second day. You’ll then be making decisions and developing independence alongside your instructor who will be offering advice, guidance and developing your skills.

Experience Required

If you’ve gazed up at a rocky ridge and thought ‘I wonder’ or ‘that looks fun’, but were unsure about how to do it, then this is the course for you! You can expect to ascend a major summit (3000 feet) and to be in exposed positions at times, so a good level of fitness and a head for heights will ensure you get the most from the weekend.
