Overview

As autumn arrives in Eryri, Gwydir Forest comes alive with vibrant colours, crisp mountain air and spectacular views. Join us for a guided mountain bike adventure through ancient woodland, historic mining tracks, hidden trails and beautiful viewpoints overlooking the Conwy Valley.

Starting and finishing at Plas y Brenin, this is a fantastic day of natural mountain biking, exploration and adventure in the heart of North Wales.

Leave the trail centres behind and discover some of the natural riding that makes North Wales such a special mountain biking destination.

This guided adventure takes you from Plas y Brenin into the beautiful Gwydir Forest, linking forest roads, natural singletrack, historic tracks and hidden trails along the way. Your guide will take care of the route, leaving you free to enjoy the riding, scenery and autumn atmosphere.

Along the way we'll explore areas including Llyn Elsi, Gwydir Forest and historic mining and quarry tracks, with opportunities to stop and take in the views across the Conwy Valley.

The ride is aimed at riders with a moderate level of fitness and mountain biking experience who enjoy exploring natural terrain and want to discover more of what Eryri has to offer.

E-bike hire is subject to availability at a cost of £45 per person per day

The Objectives

Discover the hidden trails and spectacular autumn landscapes of Gwydir Forest while developing confidence and skills on varied natural terrain. Through guided riding and informal coaching, participants will improve their trail awareness, technique, navigation and bike-handling skills while enjoying an adventurous day in the heart of Eryri.

Itinerary

A Typical Day

9:00am – Meet at Plas y Brenin

Introductions, briefing and bike/equipment checks before setting off.

Morning – Into Gwydir Forest

Ride from Plas y Brenin into the forest, exploring natural trails, historic tracks and scenic viewpoints.

Lunch – Take in the Views

Enjoy a relaxed picnic lunch at a scenic location in the forest before continuing the ride.

We'll explore areas such as:

Llyn Elsi

Enjoy the peaceful surroundings and beautiful views around this atmospheric mountain lake.

Gwydir Forest

Ride through ancient woodland and experience the spectacular autumn colours.

Historic mining and quarry tracks

Discover some of the area's industrial heritage as the route takes us along historic tracks.

Forest viewpoints

Stop to enjoy panoramic views across the Conwy Valley and surrounding mountains.

Hidden woodland trails

Get away from the better-known routes and discover some of the natural riding that makes Gwydir so enjoyable.

We'll take a relaxed lunch stop at one of the many scenic locations in the forest before continuing our adventure. Residential bookings have their Packed Lunches included, Non Residential bookings, please bring your own packed lunch and snacks.

Afternoon – Explore Further

Discover more of Gwydir's hidden trails, enjoy flowing descents and take in the spectacular autumn scenery. More flowing descents, natural trails and technical features, with plenty of time to enjoy the riding before making our way back to Plas y Brenin.

Approximately 4:30pm – Return to Plas y Brenin

Finish the ride back at the centre after a full day of adventure.

Experience Required

This adventure is suitable for riders with a moderate level of fitness and mountain biking experience who are comfortable riding varied natural terrain. You should be happy riding:

Forest roads and tracks

Natural mountain bike trails

Uneven and sometimes rocky terrain

Singletrack

Moderate climbs and descents

For around 25–35km over the course of the day |You don't need to be an expert mountain biker, but you should be comfortable riding off-road and be prepared for a full day in the outdoors.
