Join us for a beautiful day exploring the Northern Carneddau Mountains with an expert local guide. Enjoy the changing autumn colours, spectacular mountain scenery and fascinating local history as you discover this special corner of Eryri National Park.

This guided one-day mountain walk is ideal for 50+ adults and visitors looking to experience the landscapes of Eryri with an experienced guide.

Take a break from the usual tourist trail and discover the Carneddau at their most atmospheric. Your guide will bring the landscape to life, sharing stories of the mountains and the people who have shaped this unique part of North Wales.

The pace and route will be chosen to make the most of the day's weather and conditions, while giving you plenty of time to enjoy the scenery and experience the mountains.

The Objectives

Your day will take you through a variety of landscapes across the Northern Carneddau Mountain range. The exact route will depend on the prevailing weather and conditions, ensuring we choose the best and most enjoyable adventure for the day.

Expect approximately 4–5 hours of walking, with time to pause, take in the views and discover more about the area's fascinating natural and cultural heritage.

Along the way, your expert guide will share their knowledge of the local landscape and history, giving you a deeper appreciation of Eryri as you explore.

9:00am – Meet your Guide

Meet your experienced local Guide at Plas y Brenin and get ready for a day exploring the beautiful Carneddau Mountains. Your Guide will check everyone is prepared for the conditions, talk through the plan for the day and make sure you have everything you need before setting off.

Morning – Into the Carneddau

Head into the mountains and discover the autumn landscape of Eryri. As you walk, take your time to enjoy the changing colours, open mountain views and crisp autumn air.

Lunch – Take in the views

Stop for a picnic lunch in the mountains and enjoy a well-earned rest. With the dramatic Carneddau landscape around you, it's the perfect opportunity to take in the scenery and recharge for the afternoon. Residential bookings have packed lunches included. For Non Residential bookings, please bring your own lunch and snacks.

Afternoon – Explore and discover

Continue your journey through the Northern Carneddau, experiencing more of the varied mountain landscape. The exact route will be chosen according to the weather and conditions, allowing your Guide to make the most of the day and find the best places to enjoy the autumn scenery.

By 5:00pm – Back to Plas y Brenin

Return to the Centre for a well-earned cup of tea and a slice of cake. Relax and chat with your Guide about the day's highlights before heading home.

What to expect: A relaxed but rewarding day in the mountains, combining beautiful autumn scenery, fascinating local history and expert guidance. Come and discover a different side of Eryri and enjoy the Carneddau at their colourful autumn best.

Experience Required

This walk is suitable for anyone with reasonable fitness and some experience of walking in an upland environment.

You should be comfortable walking for 4–5 hours, both on and off paths, and be able to carry your own day rucksack.
