There are few better places to experience the changing seasons than the mountains of Eryri. In autumn, the landscape takes on beautiful golden and russet colours, while the crisp mountain air and dramatic scenery create the perfect backdrop for a day outdoors. This guided walk offers the opportunity to explore Yr Wyddfa and its surrounding mountain landscapes, discovering more about the natural environment, history and heritage of this iconic part of North Wales. The course is suited to anyone who enjoys walking and want to experience the mountains with an experienced local guide. Whether you're visiting Eryri for the first time or simply want to see this famous landscape from a different perspective, it's a wonderful way to spend a day in the mountains.

The Objectives

The aim of the day is to provide an enjoyable and informative guided walk, allowing participants to:

Experience the beauty of Yr Wyddfa and Eryri in autumn.

Explore the mountain environment with an experienced guide.

Discover more about the local history and heritage of the area.

Develop a greater appreciation of the landscapes and natural environment.

Enjoy a rewarding day walking in the mountains with like-minded people. Most importantly, it's about getting outside, enjoying the views and making the most of a beautiful day in Eryri.

Itinerary

The exact route will depend on the weather and mountain conditions on the day. Your guide will select a suitable route that allows the group to experience the best of the Yr Wyddfa mountain range while taking account of the conditions and the group's abilities.


We'll spend around 4–5 hours walking, with plenty of opportunities to stop, take in the views and learn more about the landscape and its fascinating history.

The route may include a mixture of established paths and rougher mountain terrain, giving you the opportunity to experience different aspects of the Yr Wyddfa landscape.

  • Lunch – Take in the Views

    We'll stop for a picnic lunch in the mountains and enjoy a well-earned rest. With the spectacular Eryri landscape around you, it's the perfect opportunity to take in the scenery, recharge and enjoy the views before continuing your walk. Residential bookings have their Packed lunches included, Non-residential bookings: Please bring your own lunch and snacks.

  • We'll aim to return to Plas y Brenin by around 5:00pm, where you can relax with some well-earned tea and cake before joining your guide for a friendly debrief.

    It's the perfect opportunity to share your favourite moments from the day, swap stories and reflect on your time in the mountains.

  • Experience Required

    This walk is suitable for anyone with a reasonable level of fitness and some previous experience of walking in an upland environment. | You should be comfortable:

  • Walking for around 4–5 hours
  • Walking on paths and rougher, off-path terrain
  • Being outdoors for a full day in changeable mountain weather
  • Carrying your own day rucksack
  • Walking over varied and sometimes uneven mountain terrain | You don't need to be an experienced mountaineer. If you enjoy walking and would like to discover more about the landscapes, history and character of Yr Wyddfa, we'd love to have you along.
