Overview

On this five day programme, you'll cover the paddling, leadership and safety skills necessary to prepare you for your Advanced White Water Leader Assessment.. We've designed it to exceed the normal training requirements for this award (it incorporates The British Canoeing Advanced White Water Safety and Rescue course). You'll also be equipped with a personalised action plan, designed to help you reach your goal of a successful assessment.

The Objectives

The aim at this level is that you'll show the personal skill level, leadership, ability and judgement to lead paddlers with a range of experience, up to and including advanced white water. You'll be able to select appropriate environments for paddlers with a range of experience.

What to Expect

You'll be spending most of your time on advanced rivers of grade 3-4(5). We'll aim to get you on different styles of river e.g. tight and technical and bigger volume, depending on water levels. We'll also spend two days covering the Advanced White-water Safety and Rescue syllabus.

Experience Required

  • Some experience of paddling in advanced White-water conditions.
  • Competent Grade III paddler with some experience of Grade IV.
  • A reliable moving water roll.

We want to help you focus on achieving your goals, so comfortable accommodation (with WIFI included) and good food are part of the deal - you don't need to think about sorting this out for yourself. Support is on hand from our friendly, and exceptionally well qualified, staff to help develop your understanding and personal skills. They also help you to formulate an appropriate action plan for your further development. What's more, you'll have access to our extensive range of paddling equipment and clothing to use whilst honing your chosen skills. This gives you the perfect opportunity to test out that new piece of kit you've had your eye on. You just bring yourself, your 'can do' attitude, and determination to achieve excellence.

What do I need to bring?

All you really need to bring is sufficient base clothing to wear under a wetsuit and some suitable footwear. Our stores have a range of Peak UK soft wear as well as paddles and poles. We have an extensive selection of different styles of canoes and kayaks from a range of manufacturers. This is an ideal opportunity to try something new if you'd like to. If you prefer the familiar, feel free to bring along your own kit. We have rescue dry suits available for these elements of the training but if you have your own we would advise you to bring it along.

How should I prepare?
You'll need to make sure you're fit enough for five challenging days on advanced water, and have kayaked regularly before attending.
