Overview

This is an immersive 2-day course where you’ll learn how to stay safe paddling in a grade 2/3 environment. Here to provide you with the peace of mind that you know how to keep yourself and your peers safe whilst independently paddling in a moderate environment. We’ll cover the safe practices and practical solutions to deal with common problems that may happen on the river this includes trip planning, swimming in whitewater, chase boating and retrieving people and equipment. Paddlers can access the course with their preferred craft which can include kayaks, canoes and stand up paddleboards. By the nature of this course, it’ll be a very hands on experience with lots of scenario based training.

The Objectives

To understand how the motivations of why we go paddling influence the decisions we make and how this is key in prevention and effective trip planning. Knowing the planning and procedures of what to do in an emergency. How to deal with the mishaps that happen in a moderate water environment. Whitewater Swimming, chase boating, using equipment to aid a rescue and how to retrieve and extract people and equipment from whitewater.

Experience Required

You need to feel comfortable swimming in and around grade 2 water and be able to independently paddle your craft.

This course is designed to provide the knowledge on how to stay safe whilst out paddling on grade 2/3 whitewater and how to deal with problems if they arise. Probably the most beneficial courses you can do as a whitewater paddler and a pre-requisite for White Water Leader, Canoe White Water Leader and Advanced White Water Safety Training.
