Overview

This course is ideal if you already hold an advanced leadership award in another discipline, or want to top up on training that you've recieved previously (it's the minimum requirement to attain Advanced Canoe Leader award). You'll cover paddling, leadership, and safety skills (both solo and as part of a tandem crew), but the exact course content is up to you as it's an opportunity to recap on areas that you specifically want or need to revisit

The Objectives

The course aims to train you in a range of paddling techniques and equip you to select which is best suited to any given situation. By the end of the course, you should be able to perform all the techniques on both sides (i.e. bilaterally).When paddling as part of a tandem crew, each member of your crew should be able to paddle at both bow and stern

What to Expect

The course will make the best use of the weather and water levels to ensure that we maximise conditions. You can expect to spend one day on Grade 3 white-water and one day/night on advanced open water

Experience Required

Canoe Leader Award or proof of British Canoeing approved APL

We want to help you focus on achieving your goals, so comfortable accommodation (with WIFI included) and good food are part of the deal - you don't need to think about sorting this out for yourself. Support is on hand from our friendly, and exceptionally well qualified, staff to help develop your understanding and personal skills. They also help you to formulate an appropriate action plan for your further development. What's more, you'll have access to our extensive range of paddling equipment and clothing to use whilst honing your chosen skills. This gives you the perfect opportunity to test out that new piece of kit you've had your eye on. You just bring yourself, your 'can do' attitude, and determination to achieve excellence.

What do I need to bring?
All you really need to bring is sufficient base clothing to wear under a wetsuit and some suitable footwear. Our stores have a range of Peak UK soft wear as well as paddles and poles. We have an extensive selection of different styles of canoes and kayaks from a range of manufacturers. This is an ideal opportunity to try something new if you'd like to. If you prefer the familiar, feel free to bring along your own kit. We have rescue dry suits available for these elements of the training but if you have your own we would advise you to bring it along
How should I prepare?
Make sure that you're fit enough for two challenging days on advanced water, and that you've canoed regularly before attending.
