Spend two days with us bringing to life the information from the Core Coach training into the open water canoe environment building an action plan and a pathway to assessment.

The Objectives

You'll have gained invaluable guidance to help you achieve the Open Water Canoe Coach Award Qualification, and have your own action plan to help your development continue. If you're not working towards the qualification, you'll go away with plenty of practical guidance to support your ongoing learning and development.

What to Expect

You'll spend day one applying your Core Coach Training on moderate open water in both solo and tandem boats. We'll cover paddling into, across, and down winds of up to force 4. On day two, we'll evaluate your coaching and use the feedback to help you develop an action plan for assessment and/or further improvements to your coaching.

Experience Required

Prior to your Coach Award Assessment you must have completed a number of prerequisites; | | Full Home Nation Association Membership | Core Coach Training | Canoe Leader Award | Your personal paddling skills should be well developed so that the full focus of the course is on coaching skills. | We also recommend that you're able to demonstrate the skills you've developed from the Canoe Leader award. | You'll also need good knowledge of the discipline Open Water canoeing, as this provides the content of what you'll be coaching.

What do I need to bring?
All you really need to bring is sufficient base clothing to wear, and some suitable footwear. Our stores have a wide range of Peak UK soft wear as well as paddles and poles. We have an extensive selection of kayaks from a range of manufacturers. This is an ideal opportunity to try something new if you'd like to. If you prefer the familiar, feel free to bring your own kit.
How should I prepare?
You'll get the most from this course if you're fit and your paddling feels sharp, as it's an active course in challenging conditions. Ideally, you'll also have some recent experience of coaching open canoes.
