Overview

You'll get plenty of practical advice that supports your journey towards the Sea Kayak Coach Award Qualification on this two day course. Or you can simply use it as a repeatable, stand-alone course to support your ongoing learning and development. Alongside our friendly, highly experienced team, you'll explore different approaches to coaching and understanding and enabling learning. You'll also gain some core coaching skills as they apply to coaching Sea Kayaking on Moderate Tidal Waters of up to and including - Sea state 4, Beaufort wind 4, moderate surf (>1m) and tidal flow up to 2 knots. We'll support you in evolving your personal coaching development plan so that you have plenty of guidance to take away and put your learning into practice after the course.

The Objectives

You'll have gained invaluable guidance to help you achieve the Sea Kayak Coach Award Qualification, and have your own action plan to help your development continue. If you're not working towards the qualification, you'll go away with plenty of practical guidance to support your ongoing learning and development.

What to Expect

You'll spend day one applying the Coach Core behaviours to the moderate sea environment. On day two, you'll apply these principles practically as part of a coaching session. You'll have peer feedback and observation as well as trainer feedback. We'll then finish with an action planning session to prepare you for assessment.

Experience Required

Prior to attending the course you must have completed a number of prerequisites;

  • Full Home Nation Association Membership
  • Core Coach Training
  • Sea Kayak Leader Award
  • Your personal paddling skills should be well developed so that the full focus of the the course is on coaching skills.
  • We recommend that you're able to demonstrate the skills you've developed from the Sea Kayak Leader award.
  • You'll also need good knowledge of the discipline of sea kayaking, as this provides the content of what you'll be coaching.

We want to help you focus on achieving your goals, so comfortable accommodation (with WIFI included) and good food are part of the deal - you don't need to think about sorting this out for yourself. Support is on hand from our friendly, and exceptionally well qualified, staff to help develop your understanding and personal skills. They also help you to formulate an appropriate action plan for your further development. What's more, you'll have access to our extensive range of paddling equipment and clothing to use whilst honing your chosen skills. You just bring yourself, your 'can do' attitude, and determination to achieve excellence.

What do I need to bring?
All you really need to bring is sufficient base clothing to wear, and some suitable footwear. Our stores have a wide range of Peak UK soft wear as well as paddles. We have an extensive selection of kayaks from a range of manufacturers. This is an ideal opportunity to try something new if you'd like to. If you prefer the familiar, feel free to bring your own kit.
How should I prepare?
You'll be an active paddler and have a willingness to learn.
