  • Explore trim, edging, body position and how these influence the way your canoe moves through the water
  • Develop techniques for managing wind and other environmental influences on sheltered water
  • Build your understanding of safety equipment, risk assessment, self-rescue and assisted rescue options
  • Plan and undertake short canoe journeys, considering routes, conditions and group needs
  • Develop the confidence and judgement to continue improving beyond the course

Itinerary

* Please note: Itinerary is subject to weather and availability.

Day 1 – Developing your paddling skills

We'll begin by discussing your previous canoeing experience and identifying the areas you'd like to develop. On sheltered water, we'll review existing paddling skills and explore ways to improve efficiency, control and manoeuvrability.
We'll also explore different approaches to paddling solo and tandem, depending on the group's experience and interests.

Day 2 – Putting your skills into practice
Today we'll build on your skills through a canoe journey on one of Eryri's beautiful lakes or suitable sheltered waterways. You'll have opportunities to experience different situations, make decisions about route choice and adapt your paddling techniques to the conditions.
We'll also explore the practical considerations of planning a canoe trip.

We'll finish with a review of your progress and suggestions for continuing your canoeing development.

This itinerary is indicative. Activities and locations will be adapted to suit the group's experience, weather and water conditions.
