Overview

This is a classic Eryri e-bike adventure, linking ancient routes, mountain lakes, historic castles and hidden valleys. Leaving directly from Plas y Brenin, the route explores the high ground above Betws-y-Coed before following sections of the historic Roman road of Sarn Helen towards Dolwyddelan.

The return journey uses quiet tracks and a superb descent via the historic Capel Chapel track back into Capel Curig, creating a ride that combines history, scenery and flowing mountain biking.

E-bike hire is subject to availability and costs £45 per day per person

Ride through history on an unforgettable e-bike journey from Plas y Brenin. From the tranquil waters of Llyn Elsi to the ancient route of Sarn Helen and the mountain landscapes surrounding Dolwyddelan, this adventure showcases the very best of Eryri's trails, heritage and scenery.

The Route Plas y Brenin to Llyn Elsi The day begins gently from Plas y Brenin, following forest tracks towards Betws-y-Coed before climbing through woodland to Llyn Elsi. The reservoir sits above the Conwy Valley and provides one of the finest viewpoints in the area.

Climbing onto Sarn Helen Leaving Llyn Elsi, the route joins sections of the ancient Roman road of Sarn Helen, one of the most important historic routes through Wales. The broad track climbs steadily through open mountain terrain where the benefits of an e-bike become immediately apparent.

This section offers: Expansive mountain views Historic landscape interpretation Remote moorland riding

Opportunities to discuss the Roman influence on North Wales Dolwyddelan and the Lledr Valley The Roman road gradually leads towards Dolwyddelan, home to one of Wales' most dramatic castles.

A lunch stop here provides an opportunity to: Explore the village View Dolwyddelan Castle Recharge riders before the return journey Enjoy panoramic views towards Moel Siabod

The Return Journey From Dolwyddelan the route heads northwards on a mixture of quiet tracks and upland routes beneath the slopes of Moel Siabod. The riding becomes more flowing as the route approaches Capel Curig.

Capel Chapel Descent The highlight of the afternoon is the classic Capel Chapel descent, a historic track dropping back towards the village.

This section provides: Flowing descents Stunning views towards Llynnau Mymbyr Technical interest without being overly demanding A memorable finish to the day The route then returns directly to Plas y Brenin.
