The Route

Start: Llanfairfechan

Meet in Llanfairfechan and begin climbing on quiet lanes and tracks towards the open hills above the town.

As height is gained, fantastic views open across:

Puffin Island

Anglesey

The Menai Strait

The Carneddau Mountains

The e-bike assistance makes the sustained climb comfortable, allowing riders to enjoy the scenery rather than worry about conserving energy.

The Standing Stones

The route passes a number of prehistoric features scattered across the uplands, including standing stones and ancient trackways.

These archaeological remains provide a fascinating insight into how people have travelled through this landscape for thousands of years. This section feels remote and wild despite being only a short distance from the coast.

Bwlch y Ddeufaen

The high point of the day is the historic pass of Bwlch y Ddeufaen. This ancient route has connected the coast with the Conwy Valley for centuries and offers one of the most spectacular viewpoints in North Wales. From here riders can appreciate:

The Great Orme

Conwy Castle

Snowdonia's northern mountains

A perfect location for lunch and photography.

Option 1: Coastal Return. After descending towards Conwy, riders join sections of the Wales Coast Path and quiet coastal routes.

Views across the estuary

The North Wales coastline

The route then returns to Llanfairfechan along the coast.

Terrain: Tracks, lanes and coastal paths

Option 2: Classic Bwlch y Ddeufaen Loop

For stronger groups, continue with a larger loop using a mixture of historic tracks and upland routes before returning directly to Llanfairfechan.
