Overview

Scrambling will allow you to reach further on your adventures, opening up wilder places and steeper slopes. On your ‘Introduction to Scrambling’ course you will traverse some of Snowdonia's classic rocky ridges, with us helping you every step of the way.

If you're a summer hillwalker and you're interested in learning how to move over steep and rocky ground safely, with skills that can be transferred to any destination, this is the ideal course for you.

The Objectives

- You’ll work on personal movement skills on rock, building up confidence on exposed scrambling terrain.

- You’ll spend the weekend in the mountains on maximum grade one scrambles (the lowest difficulty grade) in incredible Snowdonia scenery and learn about choosing the best route through the landscape.

- You’ll use your hands and feet to travel over varied terrain, and learn how to safely navigate steeper ground. You'll learn how to reach places which require a little more judgement about terrain than you currently possess.

What to Expect

This is a very practical course so both days will be spent scrambling, expect big hill days.

Experience Required

You'll need some summer hillwalking experience, but no previous scrambling experience is necessary.

We want to help you focus on achieving your goals so if you're staying with us, comfortable accommodation (with WIFI included) and good food are part of the deal, you don't need to think about sorting this out for yourself. Support is on hand from our friendly, and exceptionally well qualified staff, to help develop your understanding and personal skills. They also help you to formulate an appropriate action plan for your further development.

What do I need to bring?

Before you rush out and buy - don't forget on our courses, for certain items such as boots, kit hire is included

  • Walking Boots
  • Walking socks
  • Wicking base layer
  • Walking trousers – usually these will be a modern ‘technical’ quick drying fabric
  • Fleece
  • Hard Shell Waterproofs
  • Woolly hat Gloves – need to be warm
  • Rucksack- ideally 35 litres min
  • Personal First aid kit
  • Spare clothing – e.g. extra fleece, belay jacket, spare gloves, spare hat, goggles
  • Sun glasses particularly when sunny or snowy
  • Drinks bottle and/or flask
  • Compass (Silva Expedition 4 recommended)
  • Maps - OS 17 Snowdon & Conwy Valley 1:25000 (and OS 115 Snowdon 1:50000 for navigation courses). Laminated maps are great as you don't need a map case and you can make notes mark points etc. (Can be purchased from our shop)
  • Sun cream/ insect repellent/ spare food/sun hat.
How should I prepare?
You should ideally have done some hillwalking.
