The assessment course is designed to give candidates the opportunity to prove that they can operate as a Mountain Training Lowland Leader at a nationally recognised standard. You'll show us that you can put all the necessary skills from your Lowland Leader training into practice during this two-day assessment.

What to Expect


You'll be assessed against the Mountain Training Syllabus during two full days out walking.

Experience Required

Before you book onto a Lowland Leader assessment, make sure you have done the following;

  • Attended a Lowland Leader training course (or have been granted exemption)
  • Familiarised yourself with the syllabus
  • Logged a minimum of 20 walks in lowland countryside in different types of terrain (woodland, coastal, farmland etc)
  • Gained a current first aid certificate, minimum 16 hours and relevant to your work as a Lowland Leader

We want to help you focus on achieving your goals so if you're staying with us, comfortable accommodation (with WIFI included) and good food are part of the deal, you don't need to think about sorting this out for yourself. Support is on hand from our friendly, and exceptionally well qualified staff, to help develop your understanding and personal skills. They also help you to formulate an appropriate action plan for your further development.
