Overview

This five-day rock climbing course is for young people aged 12-17 year old who have experience climbing on indoor walls and want to make the transition to climb outside on rock. You'll get to learn new skills all around North Wales, on single and multipitch routes as well as on the best quality sport climbs. Our friendly, enthusiastic and highly qualified instructors will help you become self-sufficient as quickly as possible. We'll show you how to climb on different rock types, develop your technique, and to deal with a host of challenges unique to outdoor climbing. We may also try a number of climbing related activities, like sea level traversing, gorge walking or scrambling to improve your climbing, help you to use ropes better, and show you what other things are possible using rock and rope.

- You’ll learn in a supportive, friendly atmosphere with other young people who are equally psyched about climbing.
- You’ll develop as a climber and have a fantastic five days of practical learning and experience.

What to Expect

We'll start the week with some outdoor bouldering and single pitch climbs (less than one rope length high). As your skills develop, we'll be able to move onto some of the larger, multi pitch crags, visiting as many different types of crag as possible so you get lots of practical climbing. We'll aim to cover;

What do I need to bring?
  • Outdoor wear which is comfortable to climb in - prepare for any weather! T-shirt, thermal layer/base layer, fleece top, tracksuit bottoms or tights (shorts can be nice in summer), trainers, warm hat, gloves, sun hat, waterproof jacket and trouser.
  • Rucksack (approx. 40-50 Litres).
  • Drinks bottle, flask, lunch bag, sunglasses, high factor sunscreen, midge repellent, notebook and pen, small personal first aid kit.
  • Climbing shoes,
  • Helmet,
  • Harness,
  • Chalk bag,
  • Belay device,
  • Nut key, any climbing rack/gear you own.
  • The following items are available for you to borrow from our equipment stores so you don't need to rush out to buy them;aany climbing gear, rucksack, waterproof jacket and trousers. Climbing ropes are always provided by Plas y Brenin.
How should I prepare?
You should have climbed indoors, and have a basic understanding of how a top rope system and belay work.
