Day 1 - Building accuracy and confidence

We'll start by reviewing your existing navigation experience and identifying the skills you'd particularly like to develop.

Heading out into the hills, we'll focus on refining your navigation techniques and applying them to increasingly complex terrain.

Throughout the day, you'll practise selecting useful map features, estimating distances, taking and following bearings, and making effective route choices.

There will be opportunities to lead sections of the journey, discuss your decisions and receive individual coaching and feedback. Key themes: Accuracy, route planning, efficient navigation and decision-making.
Day 2 — Navigating independently
On the second day, we'll put your developing skills into practice through a more challenging mountain journey.

You'll take greater responsibility for planning and navigating sections of the route, using a range of techniques to maintain your position and make decisions as the terrain changes.

We'll explore strategies for navigating in poor visibility, dealing with unexpected situations and relocating when things don't go to plan.

The day will finish with a review of your progress and suggestions for continuing to develop your navigation skills on your own adventures.

Key themes: Independence, adaptability, problem-solving and confidence in challenging terrain.
