Itinerary

* Please note: Itinerary is subject to weather and availability.

Day 1 – Discovering sea cliff climbing
We'll begin by discussing your previous climbing experience and what you'd like to achieve. Heading to a coastal crag, we'll introduce the practical considerations involved in climbing in a tidal environment.
On the rock, we'll focus on enjoyable climbing while developing your understanding of traditional protection, belays and rope management as appropriate to your experience.

Day 2 – A classic coastal climbing adventure
Our second day offers the opportunity to explore another of North Wales's outstanding sea cliff climbing venues. We'll build on the previous day's learning, considering tides, access, route choice and the practicalities of completing the climbs.
Your instructor will provide guidance and coaching throughout, helping you build confidence and develop the judgement needed for future sea cliff adventures.
We'll finish with a review of your experience and suggestions for continuing your coastal climbing development.

This itinerary is indicative. Coastal climbing is particularly dependent on weather, tides, swell, and rock conditions. Venues and routes will be selected to suit the group's experience and prevailing conditions. Alternative inland climbing may be used if sea cliff conditions are unsuitable.

Experience Required

This course is designed for climbers who already have experience of outdoor climbing and want to explore the additional challenges of sea cliff environments.

You should:
Be familiar with tying in, belaying and climbing communication.
Have climbed on natural rock, ideally trad climbing
Have some understanding of traditional climbing equipment and rope systems.
Be comfortable with exposed situations and potentially adventurous approaches.
Have a reasonable level of fitness for full days of outdoor climbing.

You don't need previous sea cliff climbing experience. Depending on your existing skills, you may participate primarily as a second or have opportunities to lead suitable routes with instructor support.

The course is not intended as an introduction to rock climbing. Participants should already have sufficient outdoor climbing experience to enjoy and benefit from the additional challenges of the coastal environment.
