The Objectives

You'll spend three days climbing at some of North Wales's fantastic crags, working with experienced instructors to develop your movement, technical skills and understanding of outdoor climbing. Whether you're looking to become more confident climbing outdoors, improve your technique, or work towards leading trad routes, this course will help you develop the skills to take your climbing further.

Throughout the course, you'll:

  • Develop more efficient footwork, balance, body positioning and movement techniques on natural rock.
  • Develop route-reading skills
  • Become more comfortable climbing on different rock types, angles and styles of terrain.
  • Refine belaying and rope management
  • Explore gear selection and setting up anchors
  • Learn how weather, rock conditions, access and venue choice influence climbing decisions.
  • Build the judgement and experience to progress
  • Learn what you need to progress your climbing beyond the course

Itinerary

* Please note: Itinerary is subject to weather and availability.

Day 1 – Developing your climbing movement
We'll begin by discussing your previous climbing experience and what you'd like to achieve during the weekend. Heading to a suitable crag, we'll cover equipment, belaying, communication and rope management. With plenty of climbing we'll improve movement on rock, looking at movement skills, route reading and efficiency.

Day 2 – Building technical skills and independence
We'll explore equipment selection, belaying, rope management and belays and anchors. We'll also recognise hazards, make informed decisions about conditions and choose routes appropriate to experience.

Day 3 – Taking your climbing further
Our final day provides an opportunity to bring together the skills developed throughout the weekend. We'll aim to explore a different climbing venue or style of rock, providing new movement challenges and opportunities to apply your technical skills.
Your instructor will provide guidance and feedback while encouraging you to develop greater confidence and independence.

We'll finish with a review of your progress and advice on suitable next steps, including opportunities to progress towards traditional lead climbing.

This itinerary is indicative. Climbing venues, routes and activities will be adapted to suit the group's experience, abilities and prevailing weather and rock conditions.
