Overview

The course every rock climber should take! You’ll spend two days learning valuable self-rescue skills to get out of those tricky situations that should never arise but all too often do. If you have any doubt about how you’d react in an emergency, and how to cope if it all goes wrong, then fear not, this course should put your mind at rest. You should leave the course with more confidence in your ability to deal with a problem, so you can enjoy climbing and more adventurous crags all the more.

Itinerary

Saturday Informal welcome chat with our staff and your course members; Review of what makes a bomber belay to perform a rescue from; Tying off the belay plate; Escaping the system from a single point anchor; Assisted and unassisted hoists; Climbing up a rope with prusiks; Back to Plas y Brenin for tea and cake! Sunday Escaping the system from an out of reach anchor; Abseiling past a knot; Abseiling down a multipitch crag; Lowering past a knot; Putting the skills together to solve a more involved problem; Back to Plas y Brenin for more tea and cake, and a fond farewell!

Experience Required

You should be confidently leading at Severe or above, ideally with some multi-pitch climbing experience.

Acquire a toolbox of skills for those ‘what if?’ or ‘oh no!’ moments.
